The three things in your pocket

Most everyday carry advice is a shopping list. Here is the short version that actually holds up on a normal Tuesday.

Most everyday carry advice is a shopping list. Buy this light. Buy that knife. Then the pouch sits in a drawer.

Start smaller. Three things, every day, no exceptions.

A light

Not a tactical light. A light. The one you will actually carry is the one that fits next to your keys and runs on a battery you can buy at a gas station.

Test it tonight. Walk your own hallway with the house lights off. You will learn more in 90 seconds than from an hour of reading.

A way to cut

A folder, a fixed blade, a pair of shears. Pick based on where you spend your day, not on what looks good in a photo.

A way to stop bleeding

This is the one people skip. A tourniquet in a pouch you never opened is a prop.

Get real training. Then train with the exact tourniquet you carry, one-handed, in the dark, on your own leg. If that sounds dramatic, that is the point: the day you need it will not be convenient.

Then stop

Three things. Carry them for 30 days before you add a fourth. Most kits fail because they got heavy before they got used.
